My dad. Stage 4 and not eating.

A quick summary. My dad was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer 4 1/2 years ago. He opted to have the cancer removed, but not to do chemo or radiation. He is a holistic man. It went great. About 3 years later, he went in for his normal 6 month MRI and they discovered a tumour in his lung. Not lung cancer, but the same cells that were in his colon. He then decided to have surgery again and do chemo. All went great. He tolerates chemo amazingly well. Never lost his appetite. No pain, slept great! Within the past 6 months, there has been tumours on his rib cage and shoulder. He is back on chemo. He is in a lot of pain now. He is on morphin and has no appetite. He is 6'5 and like 160 lbs.  I feel so down about it. I live in England and he is in the USA.  I am going back to see him in 6 weeks. I need to talk to someone. Cancer is hard to talk about if no one has experienced it!!! Much love.

  • Hello Amelia.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad and what is currently happening for you both. Being a long distance from a loved one when they're ill brings it own set of challenges. I know that some of our members here have been in similar situations in dealing with the challenge of physical distance.

You're always welcome to post here Amelia; be it to talk to others or to offload. We do also have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK and if you'd like to talk to one of them then they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (free from a UK landline & most mobile networks).

Sending you our best wishes Amelia.
