Please Help

Hi Im 24 and last september found out my mum has cancer. It started as lung and has ever since destroyed her she now has both lungs her liver bone and brain cancer and the time to say good bye is ever nearing what with this and other personal issue i dont know how to cope i put on a fake smile everyday but deep down i feel numb......

  • Hi Elishaj,

Is your Mum being cared for by a MacMillan nurse? They (and Maggies) often have support services in place to help family members cope and there may be a local support group who might be able to help.

Sometimes all we can do is put on a brave smile, even when we're badly hurting inside.

None of us aee, or feel like, heroes - just ordinary people in extraordinary situations. Don't be too hard on yourself, feeling numb is one way our minds help us cope without going insane.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • Hi Elishaj I'm so sorry to hear about your mum, my husband has terminal cancer and I know how hard it is to put on a brave face about things but a smile always helps believe me.Can you speak to your mums palliative nurse and tell them how you feel, it is normal to feel afraid to ask questions but I think it would help you , alternately you could ring the Macmillan helpline and speak to them especially as you say you have other issues it may help to speak to somebody not connected to you or your family. Nobody knows exactly what to do when a loved one is dying , try to speak to your mum and tell her that you're there for her and that you love her. Take care Hazelden
