How to cope with a family member dying of cancer?

My grandad is my favourite person in the whole world. He was diagnosed 6 months ago with lung and ever since then my world shattered. I never get to see him because he lives in a different country, but now it's getting worse. I had hope when he was first diagnosed, at least I had a little bit of hope. Now he has pneumonia and he's so weak. He's on his way out and I can't deal with it, I don't know what I would ever do without him. I don't know what to do, so if anyone has any tips on how to cope when you can't even visit the loved one, please help.

  • Hello SophiaA,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Living so far away from your grandad must be very difficult for you as you are unable to go and visit him when you want.  I am so sorry to hear your grandad now has pneumonia and is very weak.

Many of our members will have faced a similar situation and will have felt the same powerlessness even if they lived closer to their loved ones. I am sure they will be along soon to give you some coping strategies drawn from their personal experiences of losing a loved one to cancer.

    Best wishes,
