Metastatic lung cancer metastasized to the brain

Hello,

I have lung cancer that has metastisized to the brain, I have done 32 days of radiation 6 chemo treatments and 2 gamma knife proceedures because I keep getting new brain tumors

I hate to be blunt but I know of no other way to ask. I was wonderinng, what should I expect toward the end? And by that I am talking physically. I know everyone is different but I am curious and for me this is an easier way to deal with it

Thank you for any insite and your time

  • Render,

Sorry to answer your question with a question. My Dad has stage 4lung cancer and just had a 30mm tumour removed from his brain. The Radiologist has refused to radiate, and suggested chemo. He is worried about not returning to how physically active he is now. Do you think chemo is worth it in your opinion?

Also my step mum passed of similar lung and brain cancer. She went down hill quickly and it was hard for us to watch. I hope you find out if there is an easier way and I will follow your thread. All the best.

  • Browner,

sorry to hear about you dad, my chemo was not as hard on me as I thought it would be. I did not lose hair but my facial hair does not grow as fast as it used to. I did get nauseous on occasion but it wasn't bad. If you look at me I look pretty good and you wouldn't really know. The hardest part of my treatment was the gamma knife procedures. Afterward it was hard to concentrate and come up with words when I speak. That is painful to me because it embarrasses me and makes me feel diminished. So just be understanding with your dad when this happens.

when your mom passed how long was it from diagnosis to the end and when you say she went down hill quick, was it painful and was she bed ridden, if so, how long?

i know talking of your mother and dad is painful and for that I am sorry and apologize if I have made you feel bad.

As to the original question "do I think chemotherapy was worth it"  I would have to say, I don't know. It has not helped with the brain tumors. If it will give me more time with my wife and grandson I would consider it worth it.

I have often said that staying active is the most important thing you can do. I think your body needs that activity and exercise to help heal (for lack of a better word) itself

  • Thanks for the reply Render,

I really appreciate you sharing your experience with me.

As for my mum, she went down hill very quickly, but that was 15 years ago. It was very helpless to watch her deteriorate so quickly. It was my only experience until now with cancer. I sure hope you get more time with your family.

This is why it is very hard for my Dad to make a decision about chemo.

    Best wishes
