Brain cancer

my mum was diagnosed with brain cancer nearly 5 years ago. She spent Christmas and new yr in hospice for respite and reviewing her pain medication. She came home and we were told she had about 6 wks to live. 3 wks ago she went back into hospice with a chest infection. We were told to prepare for the end. She spends most of her time sleeping either in bed or chair. She is confused and hallucinates. But she has a healthy appetite for someone who should no longer be here. Do you think the hospice have got it wrong or am I in denial.

I don't think it's really a question of the hospice getting it wrong or right - often in these situations an infection like a chest infection can be the begining of the end as people fail to shake it and succumb. Some people though do manage to throw it off and get through to the next crisis and there's no way of knowing who will pull through and who won't so they're telling you to prepare for the worst as its a life threatening situation.

Best thing is to make sure she's a comfortable and pain free as she can be and spend what time you can with her.
