Cervical Cancer - my Grandma

Hello, my grandmother was diagnosed with cervical cancer in December 2014. She had radiotherapy and a little chemo but they stopped the chemo because her blood platelets were too low. She didn't manage to have the internal radio either as she was too ill. The tumour shrunk but within 3 months it was back and a lot more aggressive. She is not having anymore treatment as it will be too harsh for her now, the doctors and my grandma are just going for quality of life. At her last appointment when she was examined the consultant could feel the tumour which means it is still getting bigger. Because she isn't having abymore treatment they are not doing any more MRI scans so we just don't know how bad it is. I understand this is best for my Grandma but for the family we feel in limbo just waiting, she is very positive and still gets out and about as long as one of us are with her. Does anyone know if this will be a quick thing now that it's getting so big? She doesn't seem to be in pain but has bad nights with achy legs and a pain in her bottom. The daily bleeding is getting worse but she doesn't complain, I only know by how many packets of sanitary towels she is using. Don't really know if anyone can help with my questions I just thought maybe some one has been through a similar situation and could have a chat. Thanks from Megan xx

  • Hi Megan,

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum and bring your post back to the top of the forum so that others who may have gone through a similar situation can spot it easily and chat to you about their own experience.

Your poor gran seems to have gone through a lot. It's great that despite all this she is remaining positive and getting out and about with the family.  If the daily bleeding is getting worse, perhaps she could go and get it checked out just to make sure?

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call if you have any question about cancer.

Many here will understand the feeling of being in limbo you describe so I will let our lovely members come and say hello and share their own story with you.

    Best wishes,
