Homeopath Treatment

Hi

I am looking for some advice and comfort.

I was told on Wednesday evening that my Dad has 6 months left to live. He was diagnosed 3 years ago with Lung Cancer, which was very successfully treated. Earlier in April this year he had his Kidney removed which was found to have cancerous cells in also and now he has been told that he has metastatic disease in his bones. I was talking  with someone yesterday who believes that's homeopathy treatment saved her Dad from an aggressive prostate cancer.

Does anyone have any experience of this themselves or with loved ones? I would do anything to save my Dad's life I have 2 sisters and A mum - all of which, including myself couldn't possibly imagine our lives without my Dad. He is my hero and it's the only man of all our dreams.

  • Hi Katie

    So sorry about your dad.

At times like this it is only natural to try to look for anything which might help save a loved one's life.

Sadly, although there have been many research studies into homeopathy, there is no scientific or medical evidence that it can prevent cancer or work as a cancer treatment.

You can read more about homeopathy here.

Homeopathy is used alongside conventional medicine and should not be used instead of conventional cancer treatment. Some people with cancer use it because it makes them feel better.

If you would like to talk to our nurses at any point, please do call our nurse helpline on freephone: 0808 800 4040.

The team will be happy to advise you on any questions you may have at this difficult time.

    Best wishes

  • Hi Katie,

So sorry to hear about your Dad.

As someone in a similar position to him I would advise that, unless homeopathy is something your Dad believes in, I wouldn't even suggest it. There is valid research that shows it can have a placebo effect, but no more than that.

This won't be a popular response to some people but the whole premise of homeopathy goes against logic. Don't take my word for it, read what the government's chief scientist has to say www.telegraph.co.uk/.../Homeopathy-is-nonsense-says-new-chief-scientist.html

Try not to take the six month's prognosis too literally. These are average life expectancies and take little or no account of an individual's age or fitness. Somehow some people do beat the odds, I hope your Dad is one of them.

    Best wishes
    Dave

  • Hi Dave

I'm so sorry you're going through this as well. Thank you so much for your reply. I'm sure many people see my question as desperation and quite honestly it is. I'd do anything to keep him for as long as possible. Thank you again for your help. I hope that you keep as well as possible, for as long as possible too. Katie xx

  • Thank you so much for your advice. I will be sure to call soon. Thank you. Katie xxx
