Hi guys,

My results from the pet scan, aren't what I was hoping for. It shows a cancer node in both lungs. So as if weds I'm starting a new 12 cycle chemo every two weeks, which involves having it pumped for 2 days. Trying to look on the positive, it hasn't spread anywhere else. The doctors have said I've got 2 - 3 years.

I have been reading up on the use if turmeric, so today I bought some capsules from holland and Barrett. I have notb been as down as I thought I would be, trying to stay positive. It hit my husband hard, bless him.

The aches and pains I've been getting are a side effect from my daily tablets which is a relief.

On a lighter note, my daughter is due to give birth in 5 weeks. I'm so excited.

I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has replied on my posts, you have all really helped.

Thanks again Toni

  • Hi, Toni, gp is Golden Paste.  Put 1/2 cup of turmeric (best place to buy is from Tesco, world food aisle) and 1 cup of water and stir continuously over very low heat for about 7 or 8 minutes. If it gets too thick add a little more water. Then rurn off heat and add 1/3rd cup of either extra virgin olive or coconut oil, also in Tescos, and 1 1/2 tsps freshly ground black pepper.  Transfer to sterilised jar.  It will keep in the fridge for 2 weeks or you can freeze some of it.  Start having 1/4 tsp 2 to 3 times a day and if you are okay after a week you can up the dose.  Turmeric only stays in your body for about 6 hours.  I take mine with a large glass of water or you can add it to any food or drink.

Please remember to talk to your oncologist about compatibility though, Toni.  Good luck,

  • Hi tonim,

I just wanted to pop on to share some additional information about the safety of alternative and complementary medicines, which you can find here. As Pauline4 says, it’s important to speak to your doctor before trying an alternative therapy as it could possibly interact with your cancer treatments and make them work less well or increase the side effects.

    Wishing you well for Wednesday.

    Best wishes,

    Helen

  • Hi.

Please try Turmeric. There are too many tests in labaratory which prove curcumin's (Turmeric) effect on cancer. So Turmeric is complately different than other alternative treatment methods.

Especially when combined with chemotherapy, curcumin increases chemotherapy effectivness.

If you are interested i can give you detailed documentations about it.

Keep in mind that curcumin is not well absorbed to the blood when consumed alone.  You have to consume it with black pepper.   10:1 ratio (10g curcumin+1g black pepper)

  • Thank you Teofriendly,

I would like to see some on your documentation, also I have been told to get 95%curcumin capsules, then I won't need the black pepper.is this correct

  • Hi.

Well, i have poor english, so i could not understand your last statement well,  But the curcumin that is sold as capsules are generally processed.  They are mixed with needed chemicals which will increase their bioavailability.  So in that case you dont need black pepper.  So if seller states that you dont need black pepper, it is ok.

When it comes to documentation,  Visit the links below. They explains how curcumin inhibits tumour growth.

Cancer cells have 6 distinctive characteristic. en.wikipedia.org/.../The_Hallmarks_of_Cancer

Generally chemotherapy drugs are targeting cancer cells based on one of those characteristics. So by the time, cancer cells can become resistent to chemo drugs.

But what is interesting,  Curcumin is targeting cancer cells based on almost all of the characteristics. So it is almost impossible for cancer cells to resist curcumin :)

And may you know,  in some patients,  cancer does not respond the any chemo drug.

    Doctors call it multi-drug resistanse.

This docs explains how curcumin can reverse the multi-drug resistant cancer cells.  So they will respond the chemo.  www.scielo.br/.../1807-5932-clin-68-05-694.pdf

  • Toni, please don't use the 95% curcumon capsules.  There is proof that long term use (over 30 days) causes liver damage.  Using turmeric - 2 - 5% is enough to help any inflammatory illness. The black pepper must be whole peppercorns freshly ground so that the piperine in it can help the turmeric work.

  • Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let you know, in case some of you missed Moderator Jane's post above, that we have some useful information about turmeric/curcumin here.

As you all know, searching the internet isn’t the best way of getting the correct information so always make sure to go to reputable sources.

  • Hi everyone

Although we are happy for people to discuss  complimentary therapies on Cancer Chat we would ask you not to share specific recommendations for doses and instructions for taking specific therapies.  These therapies are unproven and the full effects, both good and bad and interactions with other drugs are not known.  As you will see from our website research is taking place into using turmeric, but as yet its use and the risks and benefits of taking it (if any) are not  fully understood.

    Thanks everyone
