How Long?

My sister has just been told that she has a 10 cm tumour in her pelvic area, she had her bowel rupture in Dec 2013 and since then has been having chmotherapy and we thought was getting over it all, she had another tumour removed from her liver and all seemed clear recently she had a scan and the tumour was revealed, it looks as if it must be aggressive to have grown so big without being noticed before.  Now she has been told she cannot have it removed and they are going to look into some more chemotherapy.  How long is it likely to be before she dies?

  • Hi Nancy

No one can tell you the answer to your question, but if you and your sister ask her oncologist to speak frankly they will be able to give you a very rough time frame. They wont let you know if its just you that asks due to patient confidentiality. I am sorry to hear of your sisters situation and wish you both all the best.

  • Hi, Nancy, so sorry about your sister.  I, too, have a 10cm tumour in my pelvic area plus a few other tumours, all of which I am told are incurable.  I have asked how long I have and my oncologists have said they have no idea, maybe a few months, maybe a few years.  I have refused chemo and radiotherapy so they have given me hormone therapy and so far I have had 9 months of fairly normal life.

If the doctors dont give you a timescale just make the most of every day with your sister, and make some lovely memories.
