omg what a difference a day makes, plus a private consultati

Saw the doctor this morning privately. ( my oncologist didn't want to contact him yet) I was to just have 3 months chemo then a ct scan. Only then maybe would they contact him. Well he is of the opinion that I should have a keyhole operation sooner rather than later to remove the 2  small tumours while I'm fit enough. Also because I've have breast and bowel cancer how can anyone be sure of what one is secondary in my lung. No tests have been offered.

His words I could be having the wrong type of chemo for the 3 months.

So he is writing to all the people involved.

Thank goodness, I paid for a 2nd opinion. I would strongly advise anyone if your not happy with something ask for the 2nd opinion, it may just save you.

  • Hi tonim

Just browsing and saw your post WOW!

Wishing you all the best following your latest appointment with 'new guy' and hope all goes smoothly with plans once he has been in touch with your medical team. As you have proved always worth 'double checking'.  Best regards  Jules x

Hi Tonim ....... like you say, thank goodness you saw this gent.  What he has said makes perfect sense regarding where the secondary has come from.  It is worrying that, quite rightly, many people put their full trust in their consultant/oncologist and never feel the need to question what is decided about their life-saving treatment. Well done you!  I hope your oncologist helps you move forward with the surgery quickly. Keep us posted. x

  • Tonim,

Thanks for the update - I'm glad you sought a second opinion as so many people don't and endure sub-standard care as a result.

    Best wishes
    Dave

  • Been following your posts and sending you positive thoughts.  I have incurable secondary Breast cancer diagnosed in Feb this year.  Been on chemo but got the fab news on Monday that my half way CT scan shows my cancer in my pleural wall, liver and ribs has gone and I currently have NED status!!  Makes the chemo I'm facing tomorrow all the more bearable!  Wishing you similar success with your treatment.

  • That's fantastic news. Wow. Keep up the good fight. I'm still having my chemo just waiting for a date for my keyhole surgery.

  • Dear Lovestosing ..... What a fab post to read when I signed on this morning! I am so pleaed for you, you must be over the moon! What chemo regime are you on? x

  • Hi loves to sing

Though we have not spoken before would like to act my best wishes for continued success with your treatment. It is always lovely to read good news.  Have a peaceful weekend.Jules

  • Thanks Jules - I wanted to share my good news to help give you hope.  I hope you have a lovely weekend too!

  • Hi Max56

I am repeating the chemo I did 9 years ago.  I have had 3 FEC treatments and as of today, I have had 2 docetaxel treatments with my last Docetaxel scheduled for 3 weeks time.  I'm finding the Docetaxel much tougher than the FEC so the good news was very welcome!  I will then go on a hormonal treatment but don't know yet what it will be.  Probably not Letrozole as I just finished that at Xmas.  It obviously wasn't working too well.  The Letrozole was meant to be the end of my cancer treatment but instead I was rewarded with a new year's present of secondaries in my pleural wall and liver with a couple of very tiny suspicious spots in my ribs.  I hope that these are gone for good but we will just have to see!  How are things with you at the moment - I do read your posts and I can see things have been tough for you at times.  I love to see how supportive people are of others on here.

Hi LTS ..... you are right - there are some lovely people here and I have made some great forum buddies over the last few years.  I too am on Docetaxol with herceptin and Pertuzumab - I am due my fifth cycle of 8 on Tuesday.  I have a CT scan on Monday to see how its working.  Its a hard regime and I spend a lot of time either asleep or on the loo haha!  I am so glad your chemo has worked well for you LTS - its fab news and gives us all hope.  Take care, much love x
