  • Hi charlotte87,

I'm sorry to read that your Nan and Grandad are going through such a difficult time.

Here is some information from our Cancer Help website that may be helpful to you in determining what help and benefits your Nan and Grandad are entitled to.

    Best wishes

  • Dear Lenora,

Sorry for you loss, I hope you get through this next stage without too much stress.

Although I don't regard myself as a religious man in a conventional sense, I think we are all connected in some way. Even if it is through the chance of meeting in a forum such as this, to share our experiences. So I genuinely send you all my hopes, and what positive energy I have that you get through the coming months with some solace.

Unfortunately cancer has raised it's head in our family again this week. My brother-in-laws wife has just been given a prognosis of possibly having lung cancer, so we are all on tenterhooks again, we expect the results on 23/12/11.

  • Hi Charlotte,

The only thing I can add to what Renata has told you, is that the MacMillan nurses offered to come out and attend to my father, perhaps they can help?

  • thank you i will mention it to my nan x

  • am realy sorry that your nan and grandad are,nt getting much help, there are benefits available to help pay for care, also my dad had a pressure mattress provided,a walking frame and a pressure cushion all free of charge from social services as well as other aids,do hope you get help sorted out soon, your nan may want to consider hospice care,if it gets too bad for her to copexx

  • thank you,my thoughts are with your family on 23rd,will be celebrating my dad's life on that day but will think of you too.

  • Hi Lenora,

My sister-in-law has pneumonia. The prognosis before the 23/12/11 was that it could have either been lung cancer, TB or pneumonia. There's a big sigh of relief throughout the family, even though she is not completely well. I think people feared the worse as she is such a heavy smoker. We hope she can give up the habit now!

I hope you got through the Christmas period ok, and I wish you a healing new year.

  • so pleased for your family, hope your sister-in law can give up smoking,my dad didn't smoke but still got small cell lung cancer, best wishes for the new year.

  • Charlotte,

Just checking in, how are things with you and Grand-dad at the moment?

I know you had some info to look through about what you are entitled to...there is also the Macmillan Help line: 0808 808 00 00

They were a great help to me and still are...they sometimes have a representative affiliated to the local Citizens Advice Bureau...so when I rang the macmillan line they took my details and a chap called me back and then ended up round my house having a cuppa and filling out forms...great stuff...there is always a way to get the help and advice you need.

    Much Love

  • hi tony think they have it sorted as they still have the nurses coming rnd each day and also every 2 weeks they have someone from cross roads come to give my nan a break for a couple of hours so i took her into town she really enjoyed it. my grandad has lost his voice nearly and he had a little fit where he banged his head which really scared us but he seems ok now so still just taking each day as it comes and seeing him every day  will keep u posted x
