You're right. At times, the world can seem overwhelmingly scary on such a large scale. I rarely watch the news these days because of all the negativity that is shared. It feels as though wherever we look, be it on TV, online or even the radio, there is so much disconnection between humanity. I use the word disconnection because I think, for me, it encompasses so many of the resulting behaviours we see in the media. 

Like you, I also like to think that humanity will triumph over power and greed. I think that sometimes it's easy to forget the hundreds of thousands, indeed millions, of small acts of empathy, kindness, connection and compassion that happen around the globe every day. On their own, each act may not seem particularly special to those on the outside looking in. But I'm sure that for those involved in each act, there is that warm glow, a smile, a feeling of being welcomed, valued, connected, and so many other positive thoughts and emotions. 

We don't always know the outcomes of the small acts of kindness that we show to others, particularly strangers. But I do know from the thousands of posts I've read here in the Cancer Chat community over the last 13 years that many of these acts give hope to others in their darkest moments. They can bring a smile to someone's face. Brighten their day. Lighten their load. They can be the first stepping stones to forming relationships that add value to people's lives. 

If I stop for a moment and think of those millions of small acts of kindness that have happened today across the globe, that is overwhelming in a very different kind of way. And hopefully it might encourage us all to keep looking for the upside.
