End of life - we were told dad only had days left but 4 weeks on and he seems to be a little bit better. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi everyone please bare with me on this ....

My 81 yr old dad has colon cancer spread to the bladder has COPD and low blood pressure he's currently in hospital and they have put him on end of life ..he has the morphine patches he won't have top ups of the pain relief and is very confused state of mind ...

He was literally in death's door a few weeks ago and was told he had days were now approaching week 4 and he's not mobile but is eating little and drinking little .to me he seems like he's getting better ( I know that's not possible ) has anyone experienced this where they seem okish don't get me wrong I love my dad but seeing him suffer is the worst part ...

Thinking of you all who are dealing with cancer or caring for a relative or friend

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Carertocancer although I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.

I can't begin to imagine how difficult and confusing this must be, especially when you're seeing small improvements in your dad, but I hope this information we have about the last few weeks and days of life can help you and your family navigate this very challenging stage of your dad's cancer journey.

I hope some of our members who have been in this position with their loved ones will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice but if it would help to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to answer your questions.

We're thinking of you as Carertocancer and are sending you all our strength and support.

    Kind regards,
