Lung & Liver Cancer now stage 4. We don't know how long my husband has left. Has anyone else been in the same situation?

Hi

My husband was diagnosed back in January with Lung cancer and a small lesion on his liver. Everything was fine and we waited for the treatment to start and the Dr decided that Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy was not an option. He was started on hormonal therapy tablet daily and Injection 3 monthly.

A few months ago we were told that he had fluid on the lung which was drained and then for us to go back 3 weeks later to drain the remaining amount. we had 3 weeks together and then he started to deteriorate and was taken back to hospital. We were then told that the Cancer was at Stage 4 and that they could no longer drain any more fluid. Saw the Oncologist and we were told that my husband has got few weeks and not months.

My husband came home and was re admitted to hospital with pains and they stated that they could only make him comfortable. Over the last few days he has been sleeping off and on all day and night. The cancer has spread into his ribs and is now bigger in his liver.

We don't know how long he has and we are aware that everybody is different but has anyone else been in the same situation ?

  • I'm so sorry that your husband is now in the latter stages of his cancer journey and that he may not have much time left.

I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be for the both of you but I hope you can take some strength, and comfort, from knowing that we are here for you Else_jonsi and are sending you all our support.

Although everyone is different, I hope this information we have about the last few weeks and days of life will be able to give you a bit more insight on what to look out for, and expect, as the time draws near.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in this position with their loved ones will share their experiences and advice with you soon but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very knowledgeable and will do all they can to address your questions and concerns.

I know nothing I can say that will make this easier but with us by your side, you won't have to go through this alone.

    Best wishes to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
