Oesophageal cancer T2 - how long will my mum have?

Hello,

My mum has recently been diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer. They have has it is graded at T2 however it is still localised.
What does prognosis look like? I would like to try to get my head around this. Does this spread fast? My mum is not having any treatment due to her age as she is already quite frail. This was her decision.

We have the hospice visiting tomorrow.

Thank you in advance. Any advice is welcome.

  • The nurses might be able to reply but the honest answer is that no-one really knows.
    Best wishes

  • Hello Bet28

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. Undoubtedly, this will have been a difficult time, and it's understandable that you might have had questions and concerns about what the coming weeks and months might look.

I'm glad to hear that the hospice team were visiting yesterday, and I hope that they were able to give you some answers and reassurance about the support that will be available to you and your Mum.

As Davek has said, the honest answer is that no one can say with any certainty how things will progress for your Mum. If it would help to chat things through with one of our nurses at any time, you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Sending you both my best wishes,
