Mum has terminal bladder cancer diagnosis

Mum has given up and does not want to be around anymore. She has a terminal diagnosis, no treatment suitable.  Kidneys damaged and incontinent.  No quality of life. Had sepsis then sent home to die. Does not want personal care. No input from any palliative teams. Keep being told she has to be referred by other people. I don't know where to start and feel let down by the NHS and her GP. I think she will have an awful death.

  • Hi JDS26 and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm very sorry to hear about your mum. I can't begin to imagine how upsetting and difficult this must be for the both of you, but our members are here for you JDS26 and I'm sure you will receive some support and advice from others who have been in this position with their loved ones soon.

We have some information on our website about where to get help and support when you are dying, but it may be best to talk things through with Marie Curie. As the UK's leading end of life charity, they will be able to provide you with the information, support and advice you need to look after your mum and give her the best possible care at home.

I hope this will help to get the ball rolling, but if you feel like the NHS and your mum's GP are not giving you the help and support you need at this time, then you may want to talk to PALS. This Patient Advice and Liaison Service offer free, confidential advice on health related matters and will be able to assist you if you want to submit a complaint. We have some guidance on how to complain about healthcare services on our website as well.

We are sending you all our support JDS26 and I hope being a part of a community that understands what you are going through can offer you some strength, and comfort, at this time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
