How to cope - mum is receiving palliative radiotherapy for bladder cancer

My mum has bladder cancer getting radiotherapy for palliative care . I think I’m still in shock as this is her forth round of cancer . All have been different cancers . I don’t know how to cope with knowing she’s dying the only way I can handle things is to pretend it’s not happening. I’m caring for mum and dad and can’t stand seeing her in pain .

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Kindersurprise although I'm really sorry to hear your mum has had to contend with 4 different cancers in her lifetime and that she is now receiving palliative radiotherapy for bladder cancer.

Having been through so much already, I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be for you and your parents, but I'm glad you've reached out to us Kindersurprise as so many of our members will be aware of the struggles you are facing at the moment, so you are not alone, and I'm sure it won't be long until you receive some support and advice.

We have a section on our website about dying with cancer and caring for the carer when someone is dying that I hope will help you, but if you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

We're thinking of you Kindersurprise and sending all our strength and support to you and your family at this very challenging time.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
