Syringe driver

I’m looking for some advice , my father has been suffering with cancer all the 2024 and less than 4 weeks ago told the cancer has spread and staged as 4 with palitive care in place, pretty much straight away the driver was fitted as originally told it was because he was struggling swallowing tablets and chewing them.
3 weeks after he’s been discharged from hospital and bed bound as the cancer gone into the bones and he’s extremely uncomfortable so our main focus is allowing him to sleep. When he’s awake he’s pretty with but but doses off quickly. Is this due to the driver and meds being so strong or the cancer being so advanced?
can’t gage how long this journey is going to take but as you all know it’s a terrible place to be and I’m trying hard to be there asap for my mum who’s dealing with all the meds etc.

any advice greatly appreciated x

  • Hi Babsgrace,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the situation with your father - this sounds like a lot and I hope you are getting on OK.

If you haven't already, do try to discuss your question with your father's doctor, as they will be best placed to advise. You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Aside from this, I hope that the forum can be of some help to you. We are always here whenever you may need it, and I hope it can be useful in terms of writing things down and reaching out to others.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
