4 weeks

My MIL has a bowel obstruction and been given four weeks;  my eldest daughter who is 24 is struggling to come to terms with her nanny dying, nanny is 86; it’s a shock for all of us; I’m trying to su ort my husband and three daughters;  I don’t know what to say when my daughter has asked me to pray for a miracle, she is going to be so distraught   . How do people support their family?

  • Hi Sjwhit,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm so sorry to hear of the situation with your MIL - I can understand this must be difficult for all of you and perhaps feels like a big responsibility to support your family. Try not to take on too much pressure with this - keep being yourself and simply being there for those around you. In order to do this effectively it's also important that you look after yourself - whether this is through speaking to others (friends, people on the forum here, and so on), by taking some time out, or something similar.

Also if ever you feel you'd like additional support, have a look at Macmillan, who offer various resources and a helpline.

We are always here on the forum if you need it, and it is often helpful simply to write things down and reach out to others. Hopefully you'll get some more replies soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
