leptomeningeal disease - fiancé doesn't have long left now

Life is very cruel, I have been told that my fiancé has days, or weeks to live yet again.

Many months ago we were given a couple of  months at the best.

They were near death a few weeks ago and now it's like they seem ok, we'll sort of. Although they are confused, can't walk, but are able to toilet etc.

How are we as a family supposed to live on the knife edge daily. I'm sad, and angry at life.

I have rang Macmillan but they never answer, or for that matter return my calls!

  • Hello Cindylou

I'm so sorry to hear that your fiance's health has deteriorated further and that the two of you only have a short time left together. Life can indeed be incredibly cruel.

The rollercoaster of emotions that comes when a loved one has a terminal cancer prognosis can be exhausting and it's understandable that you're feeling sad and angry at life.

You mention in your post that you've struggled to get hold of Macmillan. I presume that this is the local nursing team that you're trying to contact. Do you have any other support CindyLou? Does your fiance have anyone regularly involved in monitoring his health or in caring for him? Do get in touch with his GP surgery if he doesn't or if you're struggling to get hold of the team who are supposed to be supporting you. Sometimes a call from another health professional can spur things into action.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're most welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Undoubtedly this is a very difficult time for you all. Know that the Cancer Chat community is here for you CindyLou as a safe space to offload and ask questions if it helps.

Sending you all my very best wishes,
    Jenn
