Brain metastases from lung

My dad was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer last year. After chemotherapy he was ok for a few months. 4 weeks ago we were told it had spread to his brain lymph nodes and liver. His personality memory has all changed and he says he has seen things that are not there. We are lucky that I can take time off work and family are helping. He is getting weaker and incontinent, sleeping more. We are still able to get him up to the shower and he is still eating. Cooked breakfast every morning. We go from being frightened in the night and morning to hope in the afternoon when we watch comedy with him. He can at times follow the jokes. They told us 8 to 12 weeks but the GP has said its likely to be sooner. Has anyone had a bit longer than the professionals have said? And any tips yo help make my dad as safe and happy as we can x

  • Hi Debra1212,

I'm so sorry to hear about the situation with your dad - I can only imagine how tough this must be. It's good to hear that you are able to help and that he has a good support network around him. It sounds like you are able to spend some quality time with him too.

My reply here will boost your post so a few more people should see it - hopefully you'll receive further replies here soon, particularly if others have similar experience to share.

We're always here for support on the forum whenever you may need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi

my brother has lung cancer which has spread to his brain. He was diagnosed two years ago and has had operations on his head and part of his lung has been removed. He has lost his sight in one eye and the cancer is now spreading down his other optic nerve. The doctor told us today that they are stopping treatment. How do I get an idea of what his prognosis is?

    thanks Rachel
