Terminal stomach cancer

My aunty was diagnosed with stomach and abdominal terminal cancer 5 weeks ago and was given 8 weeks to live.

over the last 3 days she has been vomiting brown liquid. Does anyone know what this could be? She has not eaten in these 5 weeks as she has a feeding tube that no passes the stomach as she's not allowed to have food in her stomach. We are struggling as a family to get her to go and get medical attention as she knows she's dying so doesn't want to be stuck in the hospital.
she had 17 biopsies and a meeting with the doctor a week ago and he said if she had chemo then it could give her another 18 months. But since then has been really poorly and hasn't even started chemo.

  • Hi Bee1986,

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor Aunty. I wonder if the brown liquid that she is vomiting  is due to old blood from the 17 biopsies she had the week before? The technical term for blood in vomit is haematemesis. If so, hopefully it should lesson soon. The medics should investigate this though. Take care of yourself during this difficult time.

  • Hello  BEE1986,

l wonder if this is not the stomach acids that are continually secreted from the stomach lining which iniatially start the process of breaking down food. With food being bypassed directly into the bowel, the composition of these in the stomach may well have changed by having no work to do as it were, and may not journey through the digestive system as would be normal leading to a build up that is expressed by vomiting,

no expert but just a thought, perhaps direct a  message to "ask the nurses" section for an informed reply,

                                                    David
