Last hours/day ?

Hi

My lovely Mum who was diagnosed with Vulva cancer in September, had an operation to remove but has now spread literally everywhere and is now in palliative care. On Thursday we were told death was imminent. Today is Saturday and my brave Mum is still holding on. At the moment she is unconscious and hasn't opened her eyes since yesterday.  Today she sounds like she keeps trying to clear her throat and is otherwise settled. How long can she stay like this ? Her breathing is shallow and occasionally pauses.

  • Hello Lily1977

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and that she is now in the final hours/days of her life.

Do you have any input from palliative care nurses or such? I'm unsure from your post if she's at home or in a hospital/hospice. Do talk to whoever is responsible for your Mum's situation as they will be best placed to answer your questions at this time.

I hope that she remains comfortable and that you and the family are being well supported at this difficult time.

    Thinking of you all,

  • Hi

She is in hospital. They can't really give an estimate which of course I understand. She is comfortable and not in pain which is the for the best.  She seems to be trying to clear her throat a little so they have moved her position, she has a syringe driver and a line for break through relief. Horrible to see my strong Mum like this
