Mum recently died with esophageal cancer . Her treatment through the NHS was appalling and she was left frightened and distressed by their insensitive and uncaring approach.Rather like most esophageal cancers it was diagnosed at a point when it was established[ stage 2-3]. She requested support from any early stage of her disease . She was not even put onto the gold standard framework for dying patients until 10 days before her death. She had repeatedly raised concerns with both primary and secondary health staff that her choices and views were not heard and recorded as part of her care journey. This cancer is ruthless and she suffered terribly. As a family we are carrying her complaints forward[ she raised 5 across primary and secondary sections of the NHS] to support better management and care for patients within their own communities and reducing the risk of health inequalities for those with disabilities with a cancer diagnosis. My thoughts and prayers go out to all patients and their families on this journey .
