Advice - lung cancer

Hi all

I am wondering if anyone has any advice

my mum has non small cell lung cancer stage 4, her body is not tolerating chemotherapy. She has already had targeted therapy and immunotherapy, we have had 7 precious years with her.

her cancer is now in her bones and lymph nodes

Does anyone know what next steps could be? She's currently unwell in hospital and really worried how he body will react when she stops chemo (as in will pains in her back get worse)

thanks for reading

  • Hi love, I'm sorry to hear about your Mum and that after seven years she now has to not have any treatment.  This is the problem your body can only take so much medication and stage 4 is incurable as I'm sure you were all told.  If and when she comes home she will have a palliative care team that will be arranged by her GP surgery.  They will try and keep her pain control at a level where she shouldn't suffer too much.  The district nurses will also be involved so they will come as and when they are asked it's a 24/7 service.  She will also still have her dedicated cancer nurses and if you need to ask questions then they will help you  through it all.  I hope this help you a little bit.  Just ask for help if you need it.  Carol x

  • Hi Carol

    thank you for your reply

do you know if the oncologist arranges the care with the district nurses? I wondered at what stage would this happen.

she has actually come home tonight , but off all treatment. We will review with her oncologist on Wednesday what next steps are.

  • Hi love, Mum will be handed over to her  local surgery for end of life care. Call them and make sure they know she is home and needs help.  The oncologist more or less looks after your treatment so no she won't do it but the cancer nurses are with you for the duration should you need advice.  The district nurses are linked to the GP surgery and should also be informed by the palliative care team that she will have.  If you need more help message me privately and I'll reply as I don't keep a note of everyone I reply to.
