Told nothing more can be done for my husband. Heartbroken

My husband was diagnosed with Kidney cancer in 2016  He had a nephrectomy. But it had spread to his adrenal glands and lymph nodes and Lungs He was successfully on Pazopanib for nearly two years. It stopped working. He had immunotherapy that only worked for a few months. The cancer then traveled into his spine C4 C5   He had reconstructive surgery and radiotherapy  in 2021 In November it had travelled into his brain Three lesions  two of which they used Stereotactic Therapy But alas only one of the lesions worked  the other is just getting bigger  he's on steroids   But they have told him there is nothing they can do now        Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this or has any idea of a time scale   and what to expect at the end   I'm heartbroken but know he has had longer than we initially thought   Thank you

  • I'm so sorry that nothing more can be done for husband Secnarf. I can't begin to imagine how difficult this must be for you both but our community are here for you and I'm sure some of our members who have been in this position with their other halves and loved ones will be along soon to offer you their support and advice.

Unfortunately no-one here can give you an idea of timescale but if you have your husband's permission you may be able to get a general idea from his medical team.

You can find out what may happen towards the end of your husband's journey on our website. It can be a very tough read, so do only go through it when you feel ready to do so or you have someone with you for support.

I hope this helps but if you would like to discuss any of this with our cancer nurses team, you're welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to answer your questions and help you at this very challenging time.

Sending strength and support to you both,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
