Is it significant if you're put on a syringe driver?

Really sorry to ask this on here but is it quite a significant step when they put patients on syringe driver?

Diagnosis is T2N2M1 and secondary tumour is base of skull, causing weakness in arms and legs and unbearable pain. Primary tumor was esophagas and spread to nodes.

My mums been in the hospice for a week for pain management and is losing mobility, has been bed ridden for 2 weeks and needs assistance from nurses to get out of bed for commode etc. 5 weeks ago we heard the chemo had helped shrink tumours but now we understand the 2nd one has diffused.

There hasn't been talk of it being final weeks but there hasn't been any indication of whats happening yet, waiting on a scan

She was put on syringe driver over weekend, they are hoping she will be discharged eventually but ive not a clue what happens after that

I'm getting married on Saturday and I just can't stop thinking about her, this is absolutely destroying me because time always felt endless and now I feel like I'm drowning and she doesn't want to see me, third day in a row refusing to and she can't use her phone to call or message

  • Hi 19291,

I'm so sorry to hear of the situation with your mum. I'm sure this must be really tough. Your question would best be asked to those who are looking after the care of your mum. So, if you can, try to give them a call or to speak to them in person to ask for an update and to better understand what's happening. It is of course important that you are as informed as possible about what's going on, and about what to potentially expect.

You can also give our nurses a call to talk things through if you'd like to - although they won't be able to advise specifically to your mum. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

I also want to wish you a lovely day for Saturday. Try your best to enjoy it all and to make the most of it, even though you no doubt have a lot of thoughts and worries going on too.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
