Stopped eating but still drinking

My Mum was diagnosed formally on 19th January with small cell metastasised lung cancer after a biopsy, the specialist said that the average prognosis was 6 weeks but that Mum was very weak. It's been a struggle to get to eat anything for 4 weeks, and since Thursday when she had a petit filou she hasn't eaten anything (today is Saturday) although she is drinking reasonably well.
We're trying to move Mum several hours away to a nursing home to be near all her children and the grandchildren, hopefully Monday, but at the latest Thursday, are we too late?

  • Hi Lardy,

I'm sorry you haven't received a reply up to now - I hope that you have been able to speak to someone in the meantime. The best person/people to speak to about this, and what to potentially expect, would be those involved in your Mum's care. So I hope that you've been able to get a bit of an answer to your question by now.

If ever you feel you'd like to talk things through, you are welcome to give our nurses a call on freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5), although as I say it will be your Mum's doctor/specialist who will be best placed to answer.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • So so sorry to hear about your mam...do what you think is right in your heart... no regrets... speak to Dr's/ nurses to see if she will be OK to be moved..lots of love

  • Thanks Karen, I'm sorry for not replying earlier, she went downhill Sunday 23rd/Monday 24th and passed away peacefully in the hospice near her home early on Thursday 27th. I can't believe how quickly it happened. Thank you for your caring words, I was too upset to reply before.
