Bleed on Liver

Evening,

My Dad unfortunately had colon cancer and now has turned to secondary liver cancer. Unfortunately beginning of December he progressively got ill. He got out in time for Xmas however on new years eve the pain came back and into hospital he went.

The tumours on his liver have started to bleed and its been referred to a specialist to see what the next point of action is. Unfortunately he isn't in his usual hospital and we'd like to get him referred as the treatment/hospital space is better plus its where he is recieving his cancer treatment. They don't see open to transferring him.

My questions is has anyone had someone with bleeding on the liver what's next for him? Everything I am reading is suggesting this is his final stage and it doesn't help that the doctor asked him what his end of life wishes were.

Has anyone even through something similar? Thank you x

  • Hi AnyAdviceWelcome123.

I'm sorry to hear your dad's cancer has progressed and the tumours on his liver are starting to bleed. This must be very difficult, especially when transfering him to the hospital where he has his cancer treatment doesn't seem to be option right now, but I'm glad a specialist is involved and hopefully it won't be long until you find out what happens next.

We have some information about potential treatment options for secondary liver cancer on our website but if you would like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to help.

I hope some of our members will offer their support and advice to you soon as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you Steph for your reply.

He is at home now and has his follow up oncologist appointment on the 12th of December. Hopefully then we will know more as I think not knowing is the hardest part.

The oncologist at the hospital were he stayed for 10 days has specified that he won't make it to the end of the year but can't give a specific time frame as she hasn't seen all his notes etc. I really appreciate her taking time to really speak to him and talk through all his possible options plus making him aware of what he needs to do next.

He has said he believes he doesn't want any more chemotherapy as its causing a large amount of complications. But it depends on how much more time it would give him. Whatever he chooses we support his decision. Hopefully everything will be clearer soon.
