Hair/nail strengtheners after chemo

Hello,

I am looking for some tried and tested products that actually aid hair regrowth and the strengthen my nails.

I had breast cancer which I have had chemotherapy for along with mastectomy, just waiting on radiotherapy treatment to start in a couple weeks time. The chemotherapy made all my hair fall out and completely ruined my nails. I am only in my 30s with a crazy 2 year old daughter. My last round of chemo was February. My hair has started to grow back which is great. But my nails are in terrible condition still, constantly splitting and breaking/snapping all over the place. Has anyone found anything useful that worked for them?

I know that it's not as an important post as others but the nails are so painful constantly breaking away.

Look forward to hopefully getting some good products/responses

  • Hi Heathersett,

I hope you're getting on OK and that the treatment is going well. While I'm not able to offer much advice on this, I wanted to send a reply so that it will boost your post - more people should see it and hopefully you'll receive some further replies from others who have any useful tips or tricks.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Heathersett,

I'm in the middle of chemo and before I started chemo my hair dresser recommended 'Tea Tree Scalp Care Anti Thinning Sampoo.' I got mine in a set with a conditioner and a spray as well. I started using it a bit during my chemo and it definitely thickened up my hair even though it's falling out.
I also got myself some Jennifer Young scalp oil just to look after my scalp. Not sure how this would work in terms of thickening or aiding regrowth but I thought if my scalp was nice it might help. They also have a range on their site for nails as well.

Let us know if you make an other discoveries, I'd love to know.

  • Hi,

I also found tea tree oil helped keep my scalp moisturised well when I had no hair at all as your hair follicles aren't producing oil (grease) for your hair. Recommended by the lovely people at Raoul wigs.

Will try some of the shampoo/conditioner though to try thicken it up, have always had thin hair. Thank you

Hope all goes well with your treatment
