Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a dilemma at the moment and I was wondering if anyone could help me.
A close friend has been speaking online to a guy who had revealed he had cancer. Originally he stated that doctors had told him he would die by 28 years of age but would not go into any details about anything else. He is a minor, like her, but said that only an uncle knew about this which I thought was unusual that a parent would not know.
Eventually she pushed him to clear the discrepancies in his story. He has now claimed his mother knows as the doctors reached out to inform her but he himself hid this information. He said the cancer is in his lower back but no further details. He also said they thought it would spread but it isn't at the moment, that they would do more tests and that it only gives indicators currently.
Honestly I don't know what any of this means and that's why I am coming here looking for some help. As horrible as it sounds, it appears to me that this young man is falsing claiming to have cancer. Sadly, I don't know enough to point out how genuine or not his claims are. I want to find out the truth but don't fully know how.
Another point to note is he attends a boarding school but they were never informed about a possible student with cancer, which in my mind sounds peculiar.
I'm looking for advice from people about how to deal with this situation. Are there any clear markers to you that this isn't possible? Or any questions you would advice asking him?
Any input on this situation would be helpful, thank you for your time.
