2 months post chemotherapy & radiation and still losing hair

Hi everyone,

I'm a 22 year old student and I got diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin Lymphoma in October 2020, I finished 8 rounds of ABVD on February 3rd and then did 20 sessions of radiotherapy which I finished almost 4 weeks ago. Throughout chemotherapy I wore a cooling cap and managed to keep all of my hair which I am so very lucky and grateful for every day. But for the last 5 weeks my hair has been shedding an awful lot and it's gotten progressively worse the last 3 weeks and I am almost 3 months done chemotherapy so I'm not sure why my hair is still falling out and neither do my doctors know why.. Could anybody help me here I haven't had anyone to talk to about this matter so would appreciate whatever advice anybody has??

Lots of love and good energy to all <3 xx

  • Hi Jordan and welcome to Cancer Chat.

Well done for getting through all your treatment although I'm sorry about the hair loss you're experiencing 3 months on.

Hopefully some of our members who have experience of this will get back to you soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then do give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I really hope this starts to improve for you soon Jordan.

    Kind regards,

Hi Jordan I'm sorry to  read all what you've been through, and it's great you have got through all your treatments . Losing your hair is tough  for anyone who has to have chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, and I see by your post thst you was able to wear the cold cap during chemotherapy, a choice witch wasn't available to me, as where I had chemotherapy they didn't have the cold caps.  I think the fact that you didn't lose any of yoir hair while undergoing chemotherapy  was a bonus, 3  months on  and your experiencing it now must be hard for you. Your body has been through so much, and maybe it's a delayed reaction and it's only now that your losing your hair. Hopefully in time it will stop falling out,and start to grow  back . Have you thought about trying something to help hair grow back, as I know Amazon sell a number of products which may help hair to regrow.  But obviously talk to your oncologist and gp,before you try anything like this, as they will know more about you and your body and what you can take or can't.. Hope things improve, I lost all my. Long hair and its just started to grow back,I'm 64 and it's grown back grey yuk lol,I can't colour it yet as its to fragile, My photo of me is me  wearing one.of my wigs ,thank goodness for wigs .xxx
