Unneeded deaths of breast cancer

My daughter was diagnosed with extremely dangerous triple negative breast cancer 2 years ago . The consultant refused my daughters request to have her breast off saying you just need a lumpectomy. Despite my fears and pleas for her to get it removed she took consultants word. I myself had triple 3 breast cancer 18 years ago and still lead a healthy life I had a total mastectomy and reconstruction as the then consultant at same hospital was excellent and knew her patient s rights . After lumpectomy it became clear within weeks that cancer had rapidly spread through full breast so at last they decided to remove it but operation was delayed for 5 weeks because said consultant was on holiday .owing to delay in op Lorna my daughter had most of skin taken from her thigh to replace excessive amount taken from her breast right up to her neck . My daughter died 19 weeks ago in considerable discomfort as after the first bungled op cancer spread to her other breast, she had by this time changed to a lovely consultant but it was too late and despite our complaint original consultant called my daughter and her husband liars and said she d never asked for breast off.I just want all woman unlucky enough to contract this disease. It's your body and you have legal right to say what you want as I don t want any other family to go through what we had to

  • Hello I am very sorry for your loss.I was diagnosed with the same type of cancer 2,5 years ago.As your daughter i was offered just lumpectomy i was told there is no need for mastectomy.Last year in march I stared to cough and I was diagnosed with BC again the same breast but with mets in my lungs. After successfully battling this with chemo since August 2019 I they found out in October this year thats in my brain So after radiotherapy I am on chemo tablets.

Just wanted send my condolences and I know how are you feeling.I am feeling angry that they have ruined my life.We have planned a family with my husband now we have nothing.I am only 43.

  • Hi ... and just wanted to say, I'm so so sorry.... and to add to this sad side of cancer ... my beautiful granddaughter went to her Drs for just about a whole year ... no energy ... bruising... nose bleeds ... all the time being told she was low in iron .. and saying her bloods were fine ...

I will never understand how he never did a white and red blood cell count , which would have led to the diagnosis ... it was only through the night when in so much pain she was taken to A and E .. within hours taken to A London cancer hospital ... for us to be told it was acute myeloid leukaemia ...

For 7 months she had chemo , radio and stem cell transplant... her treatment once diagnosed was amazing and caring and first class ... she lost her fight a couple of months ago ...

Would she still be here if only the G P had done a cell test .. we thought she was a tipical teenager.. now we know the signs ... too late ... there's much that can be done in the grass roots of just listening to patients .... listening to the patient is the first step ... but in reality ... there will always be miss treatment and diagnosis ...   : ((

Maybe if one person reads these threads ... and sticks to their guns and gently firm ... it is our bodies ... our lives ... our loved ones ... if you know something feels wrong , better to be safe then sorry .. if that helps one other not go through this heartache , it will mean they helped someone else .. though nothing can stop the "what ifs"

I must add, in my cancer journey... I had the most amazing surgeon who listened to me .. let me make my own decisions... all the way through ... I'm still here to tell the tail ... if only every Dr had his empathy and strength to listen and take notice ... so to him I say a spiecial thank you, from the bottom of my heart ..

Sending you both a vertual hug.... Chrissie.....

  • That is tragic. I hope you and your son in law have the strength to take your complaint through to legal action against the consultant who allegedly made this false statement.

    Best wishes
