Cancer has returned

My husband was diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer in Jan 2019, aged 44yrs. He had chemo, radiotherapy and Ivor lewis op. He has been doing great until recently, an endoscopy revealed cancer is back at the join. Scans show no spread. So, he starts FLOT chemo in next few weeks for 2 months with the potential of another op to remove oesophagus and replace with colon.

He has poorly differentiated signet cell adenocarcinoma, which I know is aggressive.

I'm really scared this isn't going to work, that they won't do the op. We have 2 young children and I cant think we are going to lose him.

Apparently there are no immunotherapy drug trials for his type of cancer either.

He didnt have mop up, they said he didnt need it but I wonder if he had would we be here now.

Any advice on any of the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

  • Hi Vikki and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to see that your husband's cancer has returned. It sounds like he's had quite a tough journey along the way but hopefully the new course of treatment he's about to embark on will be successful.

I hope you hear back from some of our members who have been on this journey soon but you're welcome to use the 'search forum' option in the blue bar above to connect with others on similar discussions as well.

If you'd like to find out more about FLOT chemo or discuss anything else playing on your mind about your husband's situation then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Best wishes to you both,
