Young person with osteosarcoma

My lovely son of 14 relapsed for the 3rd time in June this year with a devastating diagnosis of radiation induced osteosarcoma.  My son is receiving excellent care at a London hospital but he is struggling with treatment more than when he had his treatment as a small child.  I would love to hear from a parent or carer who may be in a similar position to us as it can be an isolating experience.  I particularly struggle with supporting my son to eat, drink and to take his mountain of medications and sometimes we get in to a battle about him taking them which can create such negativity!  If anyone who has been through or is in a similar situation as us and has any tips or suggestions I would live to hear from you. Best wishes. Eliza.

  • Hello Elizzy,

I am so sorry to hear about your son's relapse and that he has been struggling with treatment. It's good though that he is receiving excellent care. I thought I would mention another member of the forum who has a 12 year old son who has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma. You can read [@OsteoMum]‍ 's story here and respond to her thread if you wish. She was also looking to talk to another mum who is going through this so I think you two would have a lot to say to one another!

I hope this helps and that you will meet others here who also have a child with osteosarcoma.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your son.  I used to work with the BONE CANCER RESEARCH TRUST - they have lots of information and booklets. They have a good website and -  If you contact them they have a Doctor/Cancer Nurse in their team that you can speak to for advise.  There is also a facebook page where several members communicate.  The organisation was originally set up by parents whose children had bone cancer - and many have been where you are today.

    Good luck CAZb
