scared about breast cancer surgery

I'm due to have a lumpectomy and lymph node biosopy on Monday and I'm very scared and anxious as I've never had an operation before and I'm petrified.I've had 18 wks of chemo and it's cleared my tumour so it's the bad area that's coming out and I had 2 lymph node involvement and the chemo looks like it's done its job there as well.just wish I could click fingers and it's all done.it's been a very hard 6 months and having treatment through lockdown was hard as well.

    Hi Worried,

I am so sorry to hear how scared you are about tomorrow. It sounds as if your chemo has worked really well for you, so this should make your surgery much easier. It has been particularly hard during lockdown and, I'm sure that your chemo was no walk in the park.

When you have come through so much already, tomorrow should be very straightforward. Just think, this time tomorrow it will all be over!

I have had both a lumpectomy and a bilateral mastectomy and, can assure you that both are perfectly do-able.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow and, am sure that all will go well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Worried,

Thank you so much for the update. I am delighted to hear that your surgery went well and, that it's all behind you now. Don't worry about the blue dye. It'll be back to normal soon.

Unfotunately, you'll be a little tender for a while yet, but I hope that it heals up quickly.  Do you have to have any further treatent, or is that it?

    Kind regards,

  • Hello, reading your worries I am exactly the same! I have had chemotherapy through Covid and in 2 days i have surgery I am mega worried also. X

  • Hi

Before I had my op i was very scared but looking back a week on I did well.Everyone involved in my surgery were really good and helped me feel confident.Knowing now what is involved I can reassure you that everything goes ok and I never felt any pain and even coming home the same day and a week on from my op the pain is very minimal if not any pain.I was very surprised how quick the op was I was under for about 2hrs but it felt like seconds when I woke up from being wheeled to theatre. The worse part for me was waiting to go to theatre as I was delayed nearly 6 hrs due to emergency cases but I can reassure you that everything is done quick and even in recovery they make sure you are ok before taking you to a ward for a cup of tea and something to eat.

Good luck for your op let us know how u get on

    Kind regards
