I have just been diagnosed at 30

hello,

I have just been diagnosed and i am super scared. I don't have all the results at the moment. I am feeling very overwhelmed and not sure what to do with myself. Especially with all the covid and was just wondering if there is anyone in the same position as me at the moment, who has just been diagnosed.

Thanks

Sophie

  • Hi Sophie, Im 33, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in feb, even though all my smear tests and biopsy's originally came back clear, it was spotted through an ultrasound. I was shell shocked to say the least. I felt like I had done everything I'm supposed to do and was somehow being punished for something.

it was made harder when our egg retrieval failed.

I'm just starting wk 5 of 6 of chemo and radiotherapy. The fear of covid during treatment is scary, I've been taking it one day at a time. Being super paranoid and bleaching everything but I'm hoping come May it will be worth it.

If you have any questions or just want a chat feel free.

  • Hi Nic,

    Thanks for replying.

It's a strange feeling, I have moments of being really sad day to day, but I'm trying to stay as positive as possible. I was diagnosed with MS 3 years ago and at the moment it just feels unfair.

I'm sorry to hear about your egg retrieval, can they try again?

That's really quick on your chemo treatment, how are you feeling through it?

I find out the extent of mine on Friday. I had a mammogram and CT scan today and an MRI on Wednesday. I just want it out of me now.

  • Hi Sophie

no u fortunately that's me most of the way through my treatment and going through early menopause. I've been lucky that other than this I've had no other health problems so far.

the sad days are understandable, youve been through so much already, and this is just on top of it. I've found that some days I have to just let myself have a feel sorry for myself day but then talking to people has helped.

Im not going to say don't worry too much till you have a full diagnosis because of course your going to. Yeah for cervical cancer I think the treatment I'm getting is a standard protocol, don't find out for 3 months if it's worked or not.

Good luck for your results, if you need to talk, I'm hear to listen even if it's just to vent. I've found these forums really helpful, especially with the total chaos going on in the world just now and not being able to get out.

  • Dear Nic, was thinking about you yesterday and sending you positive thoughts for today.  It will be ok, you've got this.  X

  • Thank you, that's me out of the theatre part and back in my room. A bit stingey but definitely no where near the horror showed I had imagined it was all going to be!

fingers crossed the removal part isn't too bad tomorrow.

  • Hi Nic, that actually sounds really positive.  The removal part will be much easier as they are just taking it gently out.  Deep breath.  Oh just think in a few hours you will have done it, got to the end of your journey and you can chill. Mine on the other hand is just beginning so I would appreciate any advice or info you might have, but please, no pressure.  Hang in there..  X

  • Hi

of course any advice you need just let me know.
that's me home now, starting to feel a bit sicky from my chemo, but that's something I've always had.

Got external radiotherapy later today, so think I'll be sleeping plenty before then.

What date do you start treatment, have they told you yet?
    nic x

  • Hey, you're home. That's great. How are you feeling? Must be a relief to know the brachy is done.  Not to put too finer a point on it I would love to near all the gory details (have sent you a friend request as some details might be a bit private!!!!!) .  You still have radiotherapies to do as well - how many?  My radiotherapy is starting next Tuesday - 25 sessions, followed by 3 brachy.  It must be such a relief for you to get to this point as I know you were worried about the brachytherapies, plus you have had chemo, brachy and radio sessions all within a few days. Well done to you. X
