Breast cancer at 33… strong lymph node involvement chemo next - looking for reassurance/positive stories

Hi all

I’m a 33 year old female who was diagnosed with stage 2 IDC in August, I’m ER and PR positive, HER2 keeps coming back borderline/not amplified. I had a MRI and CT which came back clear.

I had a lumpectomy and axillary node clearance on 14th sept and got my results back last week. I was so positive and felt a bit shocked, the tumour got clear margins but 23/30 nodes tested positive and I know need chemo, I’m seeing my consultant on Wednesday.

I was a bit disheartened as asked my breast surgeon if I would be ok and she said “we can only hope so” has anyone else been in my situation and been ok? I’m really worried

Although I have had breast cancer, mine was stage 1. I know several that were diagnosed with Stage 2. There is one that was diagnosed aged 27. She was diagnosed after having her first child. She had two surgeries and chemo. 6 years later she was contacted to say she should have got a genetic test for BRAC. It turned out she did have it and underwent a double mastectomy. She put off having her ovaries removed as she wanted another child. Two years ago she gave birth to a healthy boy. All of them are well and she has been NED for 10 years now. The others are also doing well. My aunt is 15 years NED and a friend is 27 years NED.

I know how scary and overwhelming this is but I found only concentrating on 1 week at a time helped and if nothing was happening for that week I allowed myself to fill that week with things that made me feel better and pushed all other thoughts out of my head.

This is doable, you can and will get through it x
