  • Hello estellabeth288

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. It's understandable that you're feeling a range of emotions ahead of starting chemotherapy. Being diagnosed with cancer at any age is difficult, but as a young woman, it can understandably leave you feeling sad and frustrated that you're not going to be able to do the same things as your friends for a while.

We have some information about ABVD on our website that may be a helpful reference for you, along with some information about hair loss that you might want to look at. I've had a look through the forum, and I can't see that anyone has posted about ABVD recently, but you can read through older posts using the forum search function at the top of the page. I'd suggest having a look at the Lymphoma Action. Hopefully, you will be able to connect with others who have gone through treatment for Hodgkin Lymphoma. I'd also recommend a charity called Shine Cancer Support, who offer support to people in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have been diagnosed with cancer.

If you have an organisation such as Maggie's nearby, then do reach out to them as well. They often have groups, such as a young person's meeting or courses, that can help with physical changes, such as hair loss. I know that lots of our members have found them to be helpful. If there's not a Maggie's centre near you, then do ask your specialist cancer nurse what support is available in your local area. Penny Brohn also offers some great online sessions.

Hopefully, once you've got your first treatment session under your belt, you'll feel less doubt. I know that many community members here will agree that keeping a positive mindset can be a really useful approach to treatment. I'd also say, don't be afraid to reach out to health professionals involved in your care if you have any concerns or struggles - they are there to support you on this journey.

Keep posting here in the Cancer Chat forum if it helps to have a safe space to put things down in writing. If you think it might help to chat with one of our team of nurses, then you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're avaliable Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch estellabeth288 - we're here for you.

    Sending my best wishes,
