Esophageal Cancer

Need a little bit of advise or reassurance.

My partner who is 33 has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer in December 2024 and had 4 rounds of chemo then in June had an operation to remove the cancer (half of his oesophagus and stomach removed) and now is recovering from this but has been told the cancer spread to his lymph nodes which were also removed and it's now considered to be at high risk of the cancer returning.

Has anyone been through or know someone who has been through this?

  • Hi Sarah2705,

I am so sorry that your partner was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer at such a young age. I hope that he is recovering as well as possible from such a major operation and it must be so hard to be living with the fear that the cancer might return but I guess at this stage all you can do is take one day at a time and hopefully now the lymph nodes have been removed I am keeping everything crossed that he makes a good recovery from the surgery with no further spread or return of the cancer.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer or who have a loved one who has had the same diagnosis and surgery as your partner. I would like to mention for example  's recent thread 'Dad has oesophageal cancer' and feel free to respond to it if you would like to connect with others who are also looking after a loved one with oesophageal cancer. This is just one example but there are many more and I will now let members of our community come and say hello and share their own stories with you.

Wishing your partner a quick and full recovery from the operation and I hope that he is feeling ok at the moment.

    Best wishes,
