Son diagnosed with ALL (High Risk)

HI EVERYONE, we are in the middle of an intensive course of chemotherapy for my child who is 9. They were diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia around 5.5 months ago. They're  classed as high risk of relapse, so they've had to go on to regime C of treatment. This is the most intensive. We've just moved on to the last but one block, capizzi block at the moment.

I just wanted to reach out and speak to some other parents with a child who was classed as High risk, that received the intensive chemotherapy and see how they faired with relapses? My child is responding well, and absolutely amazing me everyday with his strength and courage.

As we are getting closer to the maintenance stage, I would just like to hear what to expect.

I know every child is different.

So please anything will help

  • Hello Gr2608 and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear your child is currently in the middle of an intensive course of chemo for ALL but I'm so pleased to hear they are responding well to their treatment.

I'm not sure if we have many parents of children with this diagnosis actively using the forum at the moment, but if we do, I hope it won't be long until they stop by to share their experiences and advice.

We have a team of very friendly and supportive cancer nurses you can talk to about your child's treatment on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9p.m - 5p.m but for further information and advice it may be worth getting in touch with dedicated blood cancer charities such as Blood Cancer UK or Leukaemia Care.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help at this challenging time but I hope it helps to know we're here for you and sending all our strength, and support, to you and your child.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
