Is it a bad sign if I’m being asked to go for more Scans

I got diagnosed at the beginning of April (the 6th to be exact ) after a Cancerous NET was found on my appendix, I'm only 19 so haven't had many serious health issues before. I had 1 CT Scan and then an MDT meeting was held the following Friday. The Wednesday after the MDT I was requested to go for more CT Scans and blood test and I am now waiting to find out what date the next MDT will be held. Super anxious awaiting these results as they will be deciding whether I need Chemotherapy and/or my colon removing, any idea how much longer it could take??

  • Hello FJH28

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been told that a NET tumour was found on your appendix. It's understandably a worrying time for you right now particularly while the clinical team is still gathering information and deciding on the next steps.

It's not uncommon for further scans and tests to be requested following an initial scan or MDT meeting. The specialists will want to make sure they have all the information they need to make a full and clear diagnosis before making recommendations about possible further treatments.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. Often it can help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it useful to chat with one of our team of nurses. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 and I know they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

I also wanted to give you two links to organisations that specifically support young people and younger adults who are diagnosed with cancer. Hopefully you will be able to connect with others who understand some of the challenges that come with receiving a cancer diagnosis at your age. The first organisation is called Young Lives vs Cancer and they have lots of information as well as a private Facebook group. The other organisation is called Shine Cancer Support and again they have lots of information along with online and in-person support available.

I hope some of this helps FJH28. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
