Womb Cancer and the need to remove ovaries?

Hi,  I have recently been diagnosed with stage 1A and grade 1 endometrial cancer. I was wonder if we need to get our ovaries removed? I know it is recommended as part of the total hysterectomy. I have no children and am still within my child bearing years.

  • Hello KB2022,

I am sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with stage 1A and grade 1 endometrial cancer. You can read more about the types and grades of endometrial cancer on this page and you will see that it seems that it is slow growing which I hope will reassure you. There is also information on our website on treatment for womb cancer and it seems that most women will have surgery as you can read on this page. It mentions here that most women will have surgery to remove the womb and cervix and ovaries are usually removed at the same time but this is something you might want to double check with your surgeon or medical team. It would be a good idea to tell them before you have your treatment that you have no children at the moment and would like to consider your options as you are still in your child bearing years.

I hope that you will also hear from others here who have been in a similar place before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. I had a little look around the forum and found this fairly recent thread by [@Mummypea]‍ who also had treatment for endometrial cancer a few months ago and you are welcome to respond and have a chat to the other ladies on the thread who have previously had a similar diagnosis.

Our nurses are also just a free phone call away on 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to get in touch with them if you have any question about your treatment at any stage.

I hope that you find out more soon about what your treatment will involve and that it all goes smoothly for you.

    Best wishes,
