Breast cancer and Oncotype result CHEMO?

Hello let me explain my background

I am 31 years old and have 3 children,

I was diagnosed with a grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma at 25mm AND high grade medial DCIS at 44mm I'm also PR+ and HR+

i have had a lumpectomy and I'm now going in for a mastectomy due to this, they then also sent off oncotype tests and my results came in at 15 which my consultant said is the high end of low risk. And usually wouldn't give chemo. However she said due to my age she alone thinks I need it.
so I want the best outcome . The mastectomy is great as I know It's gone... but as my result came in 15 would they likely still offer me chemo ? Mainly because of my age, the fact that it will prob reoccurr due to my age being so young and my hormone status.
I have also been told I'll likely have to have tamoxifen and a oestrogen suppression. I honestly am at w point where if I have chemo and it helps then so be it! But also I don't want them to say no if there's a benefit of it helping. This has been an awful time for me abs my family and the thought of going he through this again alongside the anxieties of csncer coming back!

Surely I have a say in my treatment plan?

  • Hello lovely

the Oncotype test is a test where they send your tumour to America to assess reoccurrence scores , sometimes oncology use this to determine if chemo is going to be beneficial to you , I requested the oncotyoe test myself but thankfully my score was low and chemo was not required in my case it would have done more harm than good xx

  • You certainly have a say in your treatment but you need as many facts as possible to make your decision.

I have recently had a double mastectomy and removal of 21 lymph nodes and just opted to pay $5,000 (Australian) for an oncotype DX Breast Test done in US which I should receive results in 2 weeks. At the moment my prognosis based on type, grade, size of multiple large tumors, minimal lymph involvement etc  is 80% and only a 1% chance of chemo improving prognosis. This extra test will give more accurate figures but very expensive. Of importance is that my cancer type is extremely sensitive to hormones so hormone suppressant therapy is by far a better option.

Just be sure you know all the facts when making your decision as you don't want to have chemo when it may not help. Good luck. x
