Childhood Leukemia survivors

Hi, I was diagnosed with Leukemia when I was 7 and finished treatment around when I was 11 years old. During the time, I was pretty much completely isolated from everyone , I didn't speak to any other people on the ward as I was extremely anxious. I'm now 19 and in university. The whole experience has affected me physically and mentally and it's still hard to cope as I never really got over it. I think speaking to people who went through similar experience would help.

I've never met anyone else who went through childhood cancer and haven't really spoken about it my whole life, I'd like to maybe make some friends who understand the experience.

Does anyone know of any support groups in Manchester that would also be helpful ?

  • Hello Squirrels444

I'm sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with cancer at a  young age. It's understandable that going through treatment for such a long and significant part of your childhood left you feeling anxious and isolated.

We don't have many members here on our forum who have been diagnosed as children or young people so I wanted to let you know about an organisation called Young Lives V Cancer. They're an organisation that supports young people who have or have had cancer. If you have a look at their website you'll find links to their online support groups and I'm sure that there you will be able to connect with others who understand your journey.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,
