Keeping Your Skin Protected

The sun is back out for most of the country so it’s a great time to visit local beaches and green spaces again. Although summer has been hit and miss so far, it’s never been more important to protect yourself from UVA and UVB rays (even on cloudy days). Sunscreen protects against skin cancer, as well as the ageing effects that can occur from frequent exposure to the sun. There are some great tips to have fun and stay safe on the Cancer Research UK Own Your Tone page.

Whatever you’re doing, I hope you have a good time.

Sun protection is so important - I was diagnosed with Stage 1 melanoma at the age of 39 (a mole on my shin). It returned in my groin & pelvis when I was 51 so now I'm Stage 3 and I have a 60% chance of it progressing to Stage 4. I have lymphoedema in my leg due to the node clearance surgery & this will impact on me for the rest of my life. All this could have been avoided if I had ensured full sun protection on a Spanish holiday where I burnt my shins on the last day because I had run out of sunscreen! Enjoy the sun but always stay protected!
