Join our Unity Thread for World Cancer Day

This Saturday, 4th February, is World Cancer Day, a day where everyone who has been affected by cancer comes together in a show of unity.

To mark this day on Cancer Chat we’d like to invite you to create one big unity thread with us. Either tell us who you are uniting for by replying to this thread with the name of the person you are uniting for, or you could even upload a sign or a photo as I have done. Don’t forget to add the hashtag #ActofUnity to your post.

Feel free to post an Act of Unity for as many people as you choose.

I’ll be the first to share my picture and this is for Maria, the daughter of one of my friends. Maria is a very brave, funny and amazing little girl of two who has leukemia and is now waiting for a bone marrow transplant.

#ActofUnity

We look forward to weaving this thread Unity Thread with you.

  • I would like to share my act of unity with all fellow suffers. I am eternally grateful to my care team, but want to acknowledge the wonderful job careers of fellow suffers do. Without their care, love and support out journeys would be so much more difficult. My wonderful husband has been at my side through out every test, procedure and chemo session. He has never expressed his worry or concern, has maintained  the household and his job to ensure my day to day life is kept as normal as possible. I know he is not the only one so thanks to our oft unsung heros, our family, friends and supporters. X

  • Hello all,

I've just returned to Cancer Chat after a year's maternity leave, and was saddened to see that we've lost Meerkat and Max, so my #ActofUnity is for them today.

Thank you to everybody who's been here to support others and offer kind words at dark times. I know how awful the wait is for every check-up, and it's good to know there's a friendly person online who can lend an ear, any time.

  • Hi,

Thinking especially of my lovely father who passed away in March 2012 from secondary cancer of the bile ducts.

Max, Meercat, Pauline4, DanNorth - we miss you.

To everybody that has been affected by Cancer in one way or another - my thoughts are with you.

    Nessemo3 - you have been a stalwart!

    Hugs to all. X

  • I would like to share my act of unity with everyone on the forum, of course, but personally in remembrance of my beautiful Mother, Nanny Whirley who passed in December we all love and miss her very much already and also my Grandad 5 years ago xx

Big hugs to you all ...

  • Hello all,

Haze44 is right, World Cancer Day is on Sunday 4 February this year, and there are lots of ways to mark the occasion – from quiet contemplation to awareness-raising, fundraising or volunteering.

If you’d like to find out more about this special day, you can do so on our World Cancer Day website.

Thank you to those of you who’ve stopped by to share your Act of Unity here so far, it’s very humbling to read through your posts and the tributes you’ve made to loved ones.
