• Hi Dvar,

Thanks for sharing this. For those who haven't seen the article, patients in the UK have been told the NHS will not pay for some cancer drugs because they are not cost effective and they have been dropped from the Cancer Drugs Fund.

There are a lot of serious questions being asked of the pharmaceutical industry on whether new drug prices are always justified.

Cancer Research UK also thinks there are some serious flaws in the way the drug approval system for the NHS works in this country – you might be interested to read our blog on the subject here and our wider thoughts on the failings of this system here.

We will continue to press the government to make sure that the approval of new drugs is as quick and fair as possible. We hope this reassures you that we’re doing everything we can to make sure our research brings benefits to patients, and to ensure the price of drugs is set at a level the NHS can afford.

  • interesting article. The NHS needs to employ some tough negotiators, and source drugs from countries where they are cheaper. I do realise there can be problems doing this having bought cheaper drugs online from Hong Kong and Singapore when I've not been in the UK, which are not always of the highest purity. Lets hope some progress can be made at the European Cancer Conference in Vienna on this matter.
