The 18th – 22nd November marks Safeguarding Adults Week. The campaign is led by the Ann Craft Trust and is a time to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues and highlight where support can be found.
Safeguarding means protecting people's health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. Safeguarding applies to both children (those aged under 18 years) and adults at risk. An adult at risk is someone who has care and support needs, is experiencing or at risk of experiencing abuse or neglect and is unable to protect themselves from this risk due to their care needs.
When it comes to cancer and wellbeing, safeguarding can be necessary for people with cancer and loved ones whose mental health may be at risk.
On Cancer Chat, we do our best to be vigilant and aware of some of situations raised on the forum to support our members
If you are struggling, the mental health and cancer pages on our website offer advice and support you could access and if you are concerned about your own or someone else’s safety, you can email the moderation team directly at cancerchat@cancer.org.uk.
Please check out the below video What is Safeguarding? for more information, so we can all better support each other this week and beyond.
