King Charles III announced as new patron

Today, it is being announced that His Majesty King Charles III will be the new Patron of Cancer Research UK. The King takes on the Patronage previously held by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Coinciding with the announcement, Their Majesties the King and Queen are visiting University College Hospital today, to raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and highlight some of the innovative research, supported by Cancer Research UK, which is taking place at the hospital. This visit is His Majesty’s first as the new Patron of Cancer Research UK.

Whilst there, the King will meet with our Chief Clinician Professor Charlie Swanton, who leads TRACERx, the single biggest investment in lung cancer research by Cancer Research UK. Their Majesties will also learn about other innovative technologies on offer at UCLH, including CT scanners which are being used to help with the early detection of cancer.

This is an exciting time for the Charity, with our clear mission and ambitious strategy. The King’s Patronage will bring new opportunities to highlight our work ensuring more people live longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank The Duke of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra, who continue their roles as our Joint Presidents.
